Community

The Blackwood district has a strong and cohesive community who are actively involved in various interest based groups. Local businesses are also active supporters of local community groups. This business involvement in community activities provides mutual benefits and contributes to developing cultural experiences.

The Annual Blackwood Christmas Pageant:

The Blackwood Christmas Pageant is organised jointly by our local Lions and Rotary Clubs, and has become one of the largest and most highly attended pageants in Adelaide.  A large percentage of local businesses take part in the Pageant which increases every year. Information regarding this annual event is forwarded to businesses well in advance of the event to enable local traders to take part. See details below if you wish to be involved in the Pageant or the Fair following the parade.

Networking, Business Development & Support

  • Networking

We support businesses by providing networking and business development opportunities. These include a Friday night social evening on the last Friday of the month at various venues (the Belair Hotel and/or the RSL Club 5.30 - 7.30pm). Local business people meet in a relaxed social environment, where they can network and exchange valuable ideas *See calendar of events for scheduled networking events.

  • Social Events

Social events are also held including an annual Christmas drinks night and dinner. Other social events are arranged depending on interest and demand.

  • Business Development

Breakfasts and business development seminars are conducted throughout the year which include presentations by individuals and organizations around topics of interest to local businesses. *See calendar of events for scheduled events

  • Council Representation

The BBN acts as a voice for our business community on matters affecting local businesses as a group. As your local Council representative body, the BBN contributes to the growth and development of our environment through liaising and lobbying with council on behalf of local business interests where our community’s economic, environmental, cultural and social aspirations are concerned. These include vital infrastructure such as roads, footpaths, parking, signage, land division, shopping precinct development, community services etc.

  • Marketing & Promotions

    To Businesses

The Blackwood Business Network market and promote your business through our networking and business functions, email newsletter, business and community directory, member listings on our website, and other programs we develop.

    To the Community

Blackwood businesses are promoted to the community through the programs and initiatives it develops (eg the Blackwood Bikefest, the group deals website - inDeals, Blackwood), and through involvement in the annual community events held in the district (eg the Blackwood Christmas Parade) and the activities of other local community groups and organisations.

    To Local Government

The BBN is also promoted through it's role as a local point of reference for consultation on a broad range of business and community related matters to council and other local and state government organizations.

  • Local Business Needs Assessment & Survey  Regular surveys are conducted to keep up to date with the needs of our business and residential community.  You will be advised when the next major survey is available. In the meantime, please assist us by completing our short Poll to identify how best we can help your business.
  • Other Programs The BBN will support any programs that will assist in promoting the local business community.  Please contact us with any suggestions.

Please check the calendar here for the next scheduled networking evening

Information and Training Programs

The BBN offer Training Programs in line with business demand and contemporary business management and promotional strategies.

We also link into training and information programs offered by other business support providers such as Business SA and the Business Enterprise Centres.  It is unfortunate that our own regional BEC - the Inner Southern Business Enterprise Centre closed down a few years ago due to cuts in funding.

We are able to link into the Inner West BEC and Southern Success BEC to take advantage of any programs they offer.  Business SA also support our state's business interests.
