to ensure its economic viiability and to maintain the area as an attactive place to live, work  and play.  We work with council and the community toward making this happen.

Our Mission
The mission of the BBN as outlined in the BBN Business Plan is to “facilitate business growth that is consistent with the community‟s economic, environmental, cultural and social aspirations. …The BBN is business-driven, (and) understands that it is (local) business and the community … which must take responsibility for a better Blackwood and that the role of the BBN is therefore to make a difference in shaping and creating the future.”
Given these objectives, the BBN aims to serve its business community through offering appropriate support and development structures informed by contemporary practice and trends, consumer and community demand.

Blackwood Revitalisatoin

The BBN have a dedicated interest in the revitalisation of our retail precinct. Over the last 2-3 years we have been involved a systematic review of previous studies, reports and plans produced by council over the last 35 years. It is evident that similar conditions have prevailed in our district over this time, involving issues of parking, traffic congestion, lack of pedestrian linkages between shopping centres, outdated retail shops and restricted opportunities for future development.  This has occurred due to the absence of any initial concept planning for the district and has resulted in the development of numerous pocket precincts along our main roads.

Other issues include a serious lack of accommodation options, entertainment venues and facilities for youth, young families and other population groups.

The BBN have attended a number of conferences presenting contemporary and best practice approaches, local, national and international experiences for revitalising main streets and retail princincts similar to our own.  Property SA have developed dedicated committees to progress strategies and planning approaches to successfully manage the revitalisation process.

Based on their recommended strategy, we have established a Blackwood Mainstreets Committee that will ensure broad stakeholder engagement in this process.

If you would like further information, or would like to be a part of this exciting initiative and our committee please contact us.
